Mack has played his customary pivotal role in the heart of the Bears defense thus far this season, posting 25 tackles, 5.5 sacks, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble through seven games.

Analysis: On a short week following Monday night's loss to the Rams, the Bears limited the practice time of some of their key players Wednesday through Friday. Mack was one of the veterans whose reps were restricted, as he sat out the first two sessions of the week before upgrading to limited activity Friday. His availability will be confirmed around 2:55 p.m. ET, when the Bears release their inactive list for the Week 8 contest.

Questionable for Week 8

Analysis: Mack upgraded to a limited practice Friday after being unable to practice Wednesday or Thursday. While the star pass rusher certainly isn't at 100 percent, he has managed to suit up despite limited practice reps on multiple occasions this season and could do so again Sunday.

Analysis: The Bears have regularly allowed Mack rest days this season, so as long as he's able to resume practicing ahead of Sunday's contest against the Saints, there won't be much reason for concern about his availability. The star pass rusher has notched a sack in five of his last six games.

Analysis: With Chicago playing from behind for much of the game, the Rams were able to run the ball often, but Mack was still able to enter the sack column for the fifth time in six games. Although he typically records about six tackles per game, his ability to pile up sacks gives him weekly upside in IDP leagues.

Ready for MNF

Analysis: Mack started dealing with back soreness Friday but has made enough progress to suit up for Monday's NFC showdown. The veteran edge rusher has generated 4.5 sacks and 15 quarterback pressures through the first six games, and he continues to have high upside in IDP formats. He has a tough test ahead, though, as Jared Goff has been sacked on just 3.6 percent of dropbacks this season, sixth in the league.

Tagged as questionable

Mack (back) was limited during Saturday's practice and is questionable for Sunday's game versus the Rams.

Analysis: Mack popped up on the injury report Friday with back soreness, but coach Matt Nagy has maintained optimism that the star pass rusher will be ready for Monday Night Football. The limited participation Saturday bodes well for Mack's chances to play. Mack will have a tough matchup if he does indeed suit up, as Jared Goff has been sacked on just 3.6 percent of dropbacks this year -- sixth in the league.

Surfaces on injury report

Analysis: Coach Matt Nagy said Mack's absence during practice was because of back soreness and that this was a preventative measure, according to Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune. That's an encouraging statement from Nagy, but Mack's participation level during Saturday's practice will be a better indicator of his chances to play Monday against the Rams.

Extends sack streak

Analysis: Mack continued his outstanding rebound campaign, recording a sack for the second-straight week, and he's now found the sack column in all but one game this season. Although he's averaging just 3.5 tackles, his ability to get to the quarterback makes him a weekly upside play in IDP leagues.

Two sacks in win

Mack recorded three tackles (two solo), two sacks and a pass defensed in Thursday's win over the Buccaneers.

Analysis: Mack was causing Tom Brady and the Buccaneers' offensive line trouble all night, recording his first multi-sack performance since Week 4 of the 2019 season. He's now posted 3.5 sacks over the last four games, and he may be turning the tide as he tries to return to the form that made him a high-level IDP earlier in his career.

Suiting up versus Colts

Mack (knee) is active for Chicago's Week 4 matchup against Indianapolis.

Analysis: The three-time All-Pro has coped with a knee issue throughout the first month of the season, though he has not been forced to miss any starts and has fielded at least 83 percent of the defensive snaps in every game. Mack has 1.5 sacks and three QB hits over the past two weeks, as he prepares to face a Colts offensive line that is tied for third-best in the NFL with just one sack surrendered per game.

Questionable with same knee issue

Analysis: Mack has been playing through this injury all season, so expect him to be out there come Sunday despite being limited in each of Chicago's three practices this week. The standout pass rusher has 12 tackles and 1.5 sacks through three games.

Analysis: After picking up his first sack of the season in Week 2, Mack was able to add to his total while also posting a season high with five tackles. With just 12 tackles and 1.5 sacks on the season, he offers fantasy managers an acceptable floor, but unless he's able to put up consistent sack totals, his upside will remain disappointing.

Analysis: Mack has been listed as questionable ahead of each of the Bears' first three games, but just like the previous two weeks, he's once again received clearance to play. The star edge rusher played more than 80 percent of the defensive snaps in both of the first two contests, and he shouldn't face any major limitations Week 3 either.

Officially listed as questionable

Analysis: Mack put together a trio of limited practice sessions this week, and official word on his status for Week 3 may not come until the Bears release their inactive list around 11:30 a.m. ET on Sunday. According to Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune, however, Mack is clearly trending in the right direction. If the three-time All-Pro does indeed take the field, he should get the benefit of facing a first-time starter in Matt Gono.

Analysis: Mack appears to have picked up a knee injury during Sunday's win over the Giants, in which he notched his first sack of the year. As long as the star pass rusher is able to practice in full Thursday or Friday, any worries about his Week 3 availability will be put to rest.

Notches first sack of season

Analysis: After posting four tackles in the opener, Mack was able to pick up his first sack of the season to bolster his fantasy performance. As he comes off a disappointing 2019 campaign in which he recorded just 8.5 sacks and 47 tackles, he'll need to ramp things up quickly if he's going to return to the dominant IDP force that he was from 2015-2018.

Analysis: With the Lions playing with a lead for the majority of this contest, there weren't many obvious passing situations for Mack to take advantage of. Unfortunately, the four tackles he recorded were roughly the average number of stops he recorded in each of his first two years with the Bears. Unless he returns to his prior form as a dominant pass rusher, his IDP value may not align with his reputation as a real-life defender.

Cleared for season opener

Analysis: Mack was deemed questionable heading into the week after the knee issue limited his participation in practices Wednesday through Friday, but he showed enough in pregame warmups to gain clearance for the season opener. After a brilliant debut season with Chicago in 2018, Mack's production took a step back along with many of his teammates in the Bears' 8-8 season in 2019, as he finished with his fewest sacks (8.5) since his rookie campaign.

Officially questionable for Week 1

Analysis: Mack appeared to be a full participant in training camp, but a knee injury limited him during all three of this week's practice sessions. Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune notes that the Bears would likely list Mack as probable if the team had that option, so it doesn't look as though there's any serious internal concern about his availability against the Lions on Sunday.

Dealing with injury

Analysis: It's unclear how Mack suffered the injury as he wasn't limited during training camp, so the team could just be giving him some rest ahead of Week 1. The 29-year-old is coming off a quieter season than usual, supplying 47 tackles (40 solo) and 8.5 sacks in 2019. If he's forced to sit, look for Trevis Gipson to elevate to the starting lineup.

Analysis: Aside from his rookie season in 2014, this is the first time that Mack posted fewer than 10.5 sacks in a season. In addition, he tied his career-low in tackles, which he set last season. Along with his diminished numbers, his classification change from defensive end to linebacker stripped his massive fantasy value, and it'll be difficult to expect more than middling fantasy production when he returns to the Bears in 2020, which will be the third year of a six-year deal.

Up to 8.5 sacks on season

Mack notched a sack and four tackles in the Bears' 26-3 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday.

Analysis: Mack recorded the Bears only sack of Patrick Mahomes, giving him three sacks over his last five games. However, this was the first time he's posted more than three tackles in six games, and he'll be a sack-dependent IDP option in Week 17 against the Vikings.

Back in the sack column

Mack posted a sack and two tackles in the Bears' 31-24 win over the Cowboys on Thursday.

Analysis: Although Mack now has 7.5 sacks on the season, he's recorded just three over the last nine games, and he's averaging less than two tackles over his last four games, making him a low-floor IDP option in the fantasy playoffs.
